I do not know the figures for the USA, but here in Australia too many business owners become very disillusioned with starting up and running their own businesses because the idea of putting together the financial data is very daunting to them.
Fortunately there are people out there that actually find the financial data of businesses interesting, so I would encourage business owners to do what they love (let's face it - that is why we go into business in the first place) and spend the time to find someone who takes pride in providing them with quality bookkeeping services.
This way a part of the business that many owners look on only as a necessary evil is taken away from them and they can get on with doing what they love - isn't really why they started the business in the first place?
I read this blog post with interest.
