NetBooks and Wireless Broadband: Every Mobile Professional Should Have It

As far as tech gadgets are concerned, iPhones and BlackBerry's have "all" the popularity it seems. However, in the world of small business (and consumers) Netbooks, with prices below $500 are increasingly popular.

They're small, affordable and functional - once you get used to the small screens and keyboards.

As your company is looking into what technology to invest in, consider issuing every employee that travels locally or long distance a Netbook with wireless broadband.

Netbooks Replacing Laptops?

This new year has been several times called the year for innovation. For upgrading less than perfect products and so on. Netbooks is definitely on a rise in sales and quite possibly on it’s way to killing the sales for personal desktops and laptops which is increasingly hurting manufacturers such as dell computers.

However, there are quite a few drawback’s to these small and flashy styled netbook’s that may still make people choose their typical laptop instead.

Does Your Notebook Have To Be Ugly To Be Tough?

Panasonic has a line of "Toughbooks" that are rugged enough for Jack Bauer to use in his constant fight against evil. You've seen their advertisements all over television and in online TV show viewing. However, these notebooks are a bit ugly and bulky.

On the other hand, I've always been a fan of Thinkpads, they look cool and are quite tough.

Your Notebook and Your BlackBerry: Joined Together

I have a Palm Treo but am planning to get rid of a it in favor of a much thinner and hopefully better BlackBerry (of some kind). Maybe it's the annoyance of seeing all the other BlackBerry users on the train platform happily scrolling through email while I click and clack my way through my Treo that's causing me to want to change.

cellphone-and-notebook.jpgThis leads me to let you know that Lenovo and RIM, makers of BlackBerry, are getting together to offer something really cool, boost productivity and save you some money. The next time you receive and/or send a message on your BlackBerry, if Lenovo has its way, you'll be able to wirelessly synchronize your BlackBerry and Lenovo notebook. This means that if you can't get access to a network (WiFi or other wise) you can still use the full power of your notebook to communicate via email through bluetooth synchronization of your BlackBerry and Lenovo notebook.

Do You Really Need to Lug that Laptop? It Depends.

by: Laura Leites, Assistant Editor, Smallbiztechnology.com

Lately we've noticed a growing popularity of netbooks - we're seeing them used more and more as people are simply tired of lugging around 5 - 10lbs of metal just to get online, type some messages, show some video or edit a PowerPoint presentation. More and more professionals are simply throwing their keys, phones and netbooks into a bag and going to their day's appointments.

Can a netbook replace your old laptop? That depends. If you don't need a lot of software or heavy duty computing power, a netbook can be a cost-effective alternative for web browsing, checking email, instant messaging, making VoIP calls, and streaming video. While some people happily get by just using their smart phones for all these things, sometimes you really want a full sized keyboard (like those of us who still hate thumb typing) or a bigger screen to show someone else a presentation or demo.

Dell and HP both make netbooks, and Acer continues to introduce new inexpensive versions as well. For example, Acer's new Aspire One AOD150, starting at $350, comes with a 10.1 inch screen and has a built in web cam and microphone. It weighs under three pounds and promises up to six hours of computing time on one battery charge.
