Social Networks bigger than Email?

This article is a little old as it was from March, but I just find it amazing. The article below was written by Dave Kaminski. He talks about the use of social networking and social media. Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are used more than email is. It is important to consider though that most social network platforms have a message component built in. So this could be replacing regualr email.

The stat that was shocking though, is that 1 out of every 11 minutes one spends online is on Facebook. WOW! This is starting to prove what many others have known all along that social networks are being used by consumers, and they need to be paid attention to my companies, organizations, or anyone who wants to reach out to individuals.

No matter where your employees are, you need to be able to set expectations, assign and monitor the progress of their work and give feedback. But there is a major difference in the way you communicate with your employees when you telecommute: You usually don't speak face-to-face. With the Internet being used for almost every aspect of business, it's no surprise that the majority of managers who supervise telecommuters communicate with them via e-mail.

Slow down!

Do you get the feeling that the pace of life is accelerating too quickly for you? I do. I think it all started with instant coffee and TV dinners. In the tech world, there was email because we couldn't wait for telephone calls, or snail mail to be returned. (Don't you just love that term? Talk about slow!) But that wasn't fast enough, so we went to Instant Messages. But even those that take more than a few minutes to answer aren't acceptable, and so now people text each other from their cell phones because they can't wait until they are sitting in front of a computer.

Lessons Learned: Looking Inside A Technology Revamp

It's not very often that you get to take a peak into a before and after experience in regards to how a company was before a technology transformation and how the business was AFTER the technology transformation.

Inc Magazine has a great story of how one executive shrunk staff, outsourced his IT and started using more hosted applications to be more productive and save money.
